Stuart… Rowena’s thoughts
Stuart brought fantastic credentials and a broad skill-set to the role of Chief Executive of Business to Arts when he joined in early 2007, having been immersed in business in roles such as Business Development Director with Accenture; Head of Outsourcing with CapGemini and Commercial Manager for Fujitsu.
While at Accenture, Stuart volunteered as a mentor for Business to Arts, and began to see that business could learn a lot from the skills of artists and arts professionals. Stuart brought in artists when organising internal communications events for Accenture, which led to him seek out more structured roles in the arts. He joined the boards of Fishamble Theatre and Common Ground, before immersing himself fully when he joined us!
He has become known and respected for having an opinion and not being afraid to express it in the print media or through speaking engagements or via Twitter! Stuart has been recruited for a number of panels, think tanks and task forces, and is driving the message that the arts have a natural role to play in the innovation and creativity discussion that is taking place throughout the country. He also firmly believes that there is no problem in the world that cannot be solved through discussions fuelled by tea and biscuits!
As well as spending a lot of time mentoring arts managers for Business to Arts, Stuart lectures part-time for Trinity College (MSc Management of Information Systems), and has co-authored degree courses for Oscail, the National Distance Education Centre of Ireland, based at DCU. He has recently joined the Board of the Lewis Glucksman Gallery. In 2009, he was named 'Fundraiser of the Year' by Fundraising Ireland.
