The Business Challenge
Lundbeck Ireland Ltd is a provider of intra-muscular medication which had transformed the lives of patients living in psychiatric institutions by enabling them to recover and make the transition to community living. Although Lundbeck plays a major role in this transition, the company felt that its profile and image was not sufficiently known among its product users and the medical staff prescribing their products.

The Solution
To increase awareness of the Lundbeck brand, they entered a partnership with The George Moore Society in 2000. For some time The George Moore Society had been interested in promoting and extending creativity to individuals with special needs who were living and working outside the established arts community. Since 2000 they have organised events to promote the visual art as a means of rehabilitation for individuals who have suffered mental illness. Over the past nine years, these collaborations include the Lundbeck Art Initiative, The Asylum Project and the Lundbeck Art Against Stigma project.

Benefits to Company
The Ballymun Music Room was opened in 2009 and was developed by Ballymun Regeneration Ltd. As the Music Programme fulfilled many of the company’s objectives, developing a permanent home for it was the next stage in its evolution. This partnership has succeeded at enhancing relationships between BRL, local schools and the community, and has embedded a partnership based approach between the main stakeholders.

Benefits to Stakeholders
Since it started ten years ago, this programme has grown to involve children from seven primary and secondary schools in Ballymun and has about 700 children involved each year. There are multiple benefits for participant children. Performing together gives them skills such as listening, concentrating, learning to negotiate, team building, building relationships with their peers as well as developing self esteem and confidence.
