Sherwood TV Rental & SPRAOI Festival
The Business Challenge
In 2006, the Waterford SPRAOI Festival organisers required a city centre premises with windows over 2 floors which could be converted into an outdoor performance space and venue for an innovative French puppet company De Lit de Façade’s. The premises needed to be on a street that was wide enough to cater for large family audiences and an owner that was willing to remove all the windows and frames to accommodate the show.

The Solution
There were many that liked the idea but would not consider offering the access required. Although tentative at first, Sherwood’s Electrical Store became venue (and title sponsor) for De Lit de Façade’s performance. They opened their premises to the performers and for three days their workplace was transformed into a magical puppet theatre for local families.

Benefits to Company
The relationship was not confined to venue provision. Sherwood Electrical’s staff embraced the plan from the outset and becoming actively involved in the management of the performance space. By locating in the Sherwood’s premises the festival organisers also succeeded in utilising their building as the primary branding tool for the performances.

Benefits to Stakeholders
Sherwood’s Electrical played a central role in the 2006 Waterford Spraoi Festival and helped transform Waterford city’s streets into an outdoor stage for international street theatre, head-turning events and spectacle extravaganza. Their employees had hands-on experience of cultural event management while creating a unique experience for many of their customers.
