The Award Winning Lewis Glucksman Gallery Building in Cork

Arts and culture form part of the fabric of Irish society. Many of our most treasured cultural institutions would not exist today if it were not for philanthropic gifts by individuals such as Hugh Lane, Alfred Chester Beatty, (and more recently) Martin & Carmel Naughton and Lewis & Loretta Glucksman.

In recent years, the majority of individual giving to arts & culture comes in the form of Major Gifts/Donations or Friends/ Membership Campaigns. Business to Arts tracks the level of individual giving to arts and cultural organisations on an annual basis with the Private Investment in Arts & Culture Survey Report. In 2008, €2.6 million was invested in respondent arts and cultural organisations by individuals. This level of giving is in contrast to the UK and US where individual giving is the largest source of private investment in arts and culture.

Over the next three years, Business to Arts (in partnership with other stakeholders in the philanthropic sector) have ambitious aims to increase the level of investment by individuals in Arts & Culture in Ireland.
