Docklands Print Commission: Colin Martin – ‘Vinyl Factory’
The 2016 Docklands Print Commission was made possible by the support of Savills and Oaktree Capital, TIO ICAV. Artist Colin Martin made this etching, ‘Vinyl Factory’, from his series on the Masterlabs recording studio in the heart of Dublin’s Docklands. Thanks to the support from the sponsors all the proceeds of sales were used to fund the Docklands Arts Fund Small Grants Open Call in May 2017.

The ‘Vinyl Factory’ refers to Masterlabs, which started life as ‘Digital Pigeon Mastering’ in 1996 located at ‘The Factory’ in Dublin’s Ringsend. It was the first dedicated mastering suite in Ireland. After a successful start Masterlabs was formed, based at Windmill Lane Recording Studios working with some of the best Irish and International talent. Masterlabs is now based In East Wall, this time in a purpose built mastering suite, built from the ground up to exacting specifications. Over the years Aidan Foley and the team at Masterlabs, have racked up over forty Gold and Platinum records and have had the privilege to work with some of the worlds top selling artists and record companies.
Colin’s collaboration with Graphic Studio Dublin gives us an insider’s peek at the interior of the Vinyl Factory, Masterlabs. It is a terrific way to celebrate Dublin Dockland’s music and art traditions, while also putting your funds back into the making of more art in 2017.
