‘Acting for the Future’ project developed by Smashing Times Theatre and Film Company in partnership with the Samaritans.

‘Acting for the Future’ by Smashing Times Theatre and Film Company is one of the three successful projects in this year’s Docklands Arts Fund Small Grants (2018).

Smashing Times Theatre and Film Company is a professional company involved in performance, training and participation. The work of the company is underpinned by a rights-based approach and a commitment to artistic excellence and social engagement.

As part of ‘Acting for the Future’, the company will deliver 4 participatory drama workshops, theatre performances and post-show discussions in the Docklands area to promote positive mental health and suicide prevention. Smashing Times Theatre and Film Company are currently building on their global reputation for excellence in relation to using professional and socially engaged arts practice to promote human rights-based work with local communities.  The company are delighted to receive funding from the Docklands Arts Fund to implement Acting for the Future: Theatre for Positive Mental Health with young people and adults in the Docklands area of Dublin. The project uses theatre workshops, professional performances and post-show panel discussions to promote positive mental health and well-being and is implemented by Smashing Times in partnership with the Samaritans. Young people and adults have access to a quality arts experience and the opportunity to contribute to the development of a short film based on key themes.
