The private sector contributes to the health of the arts and cultural sector through sponsorships and donations in Australia. Overall, 7.4% of the total income of arts and cultural organisations is derived from the private sector. In total, Australian arts and cultural organisations received AU$171.1 million income from private sources in 2006/07.

Canada – Business for the Arts Annual Survey of Public Museums and Art Galleries & Performing Arts Groups


In Canada, revenue from private sources for Canadian Performing Arts Groups accounted for 27% or CA$151 million of their total organisational income. Revenue from private sources for Canadian Public Museums and Art Galleries equated to CA$45 million or approximately 9% of their total organisational income.

Private Investment in Arts & Culture makes up approximately 13% of the total income for cultural organisations in the UK. The report highlights that Private Investment in Culture has experienced dynamic growth over the past few years, to reflect the general health of the overall cultural sector. In 2007/08 private investment in the sector increased by 12% reaching an all time high of £686.7million.
