An Post Saorstát Éireann Stamp Commission
A commission by An Post to commemorate the Irish Free State's centenary through an open call for original artwork.
An Post wanted to commemorate the centenary of Saorstát Éireann in 2022 through an art commission and wanted to provide an opportunity for artists to interpret and reimagine the significance of the founding of the Irish state.
The commission for An Post's commemorative stamp was conducted through an open call, managed by Business to Arts. Professional artists across various mediums were invited to submit original artwork to be featured on a national stamp marking the centenary of the establishment of the Irish Free State.
Over 100 artists submitted their entries, and an independent judging panel was tasked with selecting the winner. Brian Gallagher was chosen for his exceptional artwork and received a €10,000 bursary. The stamp featuring his artwork takes its place in the 2022 national stamp programme produced by An Post on behalf of the State.
