Fund it, Ireland's first crowdfunding platform (2011 - 2023)

Founded in 2011 by Business to Arts, Fund it was the first Irish-owned crowdfunding website to support creative projects.

The Brief

Business to Arts wanted to find a way to encourage greater individual giving to the creative sector and facilitate pre-sales of creative projects via a digital platform.

Our Process

Over 12 years, Fund it established itself as Ireland’s leading reward-based crowdfunding platform for creative ideas. Business to Arts worked directly with project creators to provide guidance and expert advice on their crowdfunding journey. Project creators from across the creative industries encouraged pledges to their idea by offering rewards, and promoting them to their network. These rewards enabled projects to attract financial support and build new connections with their audiences and consumers.

By delivering bespoke moderation to all project creators, our team enabled creatives to develop and hone skills in fundraising, communications and campaign marketing. For many, it was the very first time they had attempted a fundraising campaign of any form so our guidance and expertise was crucial to help them reach their targets. We regularly shared our knowledge and insights on crowdfunding with communities all around Ireland via in-person and online crowdfunding clinics, empowering 100s of people to take the leap and realise their creative dreams through micro donations.

Outcomes

  • Raised over €5.21m for creative projects across Ireland
  • Consistently had the leading international success rate for reward-based crowd-funding platforms at 73%
  • The average pledge was consistently €58

Impact

  • Over 1,700 projects across every county in Ireland raised over €5.21m
  • Approximately 94,300 people successfully funded Irish performances, films, events, enterprises as well as projects in music, art, design, environment, publishing, tech, and heritage
  • Attracted pledges from 66 countries putting Business to Arts on the global stage in crowdfunding

In recent years, the crowdfunding landscape changed significantly, with new platforms arising from commercial companies with the resources to provide competitive user-focused functionality. Consequently, Fund it saw a decline in new projects and funders, making it too challenging as a charitable organisation to support the operating costs required to keep Fund it running. Fund it closed in February 2023.

Business to Arts is immensely proud of the service Fund it provided to all of the project creators that successfully launched projects on the platform and the funders who supported them.
