‘Soar’ by Alva Gallagher commission for Arthur Cox
A commission by Arthur Cox for artist Alva Gallagher to create 'Soar,' an installation representing the firm's 100-year evolution.
In 2019, Arthur Cox approached Business to Arts to commission a bespoke artwork to celebrate its centenary in 2020.
Business to Arts collaborated with the firm to develop a commissioning process, including an assessment panel with art critic Cristín Leach. A limited tender resulted in four shortlisted artists who were paid to present detailed bids. Alva Gallagher's 'Soar' was selected as the final artwork, featuring 100 glass orbs suspended from the ceiling in the main entrance of Arthur Cox.
Despite the pandemic and associated lockdowns, the installation of 'Soar' was successful towards the end of 2020. The sculptural installation is a daily reminder of the firm's history, serving as a celebratory marker for its staff, clients, and the public who pass through the entrance. Commissioning the artwork was an excellent way to commemorate Arthur Cox's centenary year, and 'Soar' has become a wonderful symbol of the firm's legacy.
